Background
In June 2004, the concept of the Young Professional chapter for
the Greater Toledo Urban League was birthed in the mind of several
GTUL Board Members. It grew from the concern for the development
and retention of young professionals in the City of Toledo and surrounding
communities. A steering committee of dedicated young leaders was
formed and worked diligently to bring this Movement to Toledo. In
February 2005, a gala reception was held at the Toledo Club and
the Greater Toledo Urban League Young Professional chapter was officially
established as an auxiliary organization of GTUL.
Mission
To engage young professionals, from all industry backgrounds, in
the movement towards the achievement
of social and economic equality. This is accomplished by:
• Establishing
and promoting a high level of professional and ethical conduct.
• Providing
a broad range of community service opportunities.
• Providing
various leadership training workshops to prepare members for future
community,
business and political involvement.
Membership
"The membership of GTULYP runs the gamut - from entrepreneur
to engineer, production worker to physician, scientist to social
worker and beyond. Despite our varied background, all of our members
are: 1) Young - between the ages of 21-40; 2) Dedicated - to their
families, communities and profession; and 3) Committed - to seeking
innovative solutions to persistent economic and societal problems"
NULYP
The National Urban League Young Professionals (NULYP) is an auxiliary
organization dedicated to bringing the next generation of leaders
into the Urban league movement. The organization serves as an umbrella
over more than forty-five Urban League Young Professional chapters
in cities across the country. Through these chapters, thousands
of members, ages 21 to 40, work to advance the Urban League agenda
through corporate, social and community activism. Our members believe
in economic development and social justice, and are working hard
to develop proactive and innovative resolutions to the challenges
our society faces.
